Buen Vivir at Home

  • 13:12 - 13:42, 21 September

In seeking alternative narratives to the modern understanding of home—often viewed as separate from ecological and societal processes—and sustainability as a conceptual framework rather than a daily practice, Juliana is deeply inspired by the Andean cosmology of Buen Vivir. Buen Vivir, emphasising interconnectedness with nature, offers alternative narratives and principles that enables new ways of being, relating, and understanding the world. It emphasises reconnecting with one’s body as a starting point for learning to live in balance and reciprocal relationships with the environment and all its inhabitants.

Juliana proposes “Buen Vivir at Home” (body-place-earth) as a relational framework to approach homemaking as a situated and diverse everyday practice based on relationality and reciprocity. Through a series of “companion practices,” such as wandering, interrogating the familiar, embracing vulnerability, and sentipensar (feeling-thinking), Juliana aims to foster and cultivate relationality in daily life at home.
