Navigating the Dual Threats of Extremism and Exploitation
Artificial Intelligence is often heralded as a powerful tool for innovation, with many arguing that it holds the potential to solve some of the world's greatest challenges. However, the risks it presents are severe. From the resurgence of far-right violence in Europe, exacerbated by digital media, to the exploitation of Indigenous and underserved communities, AI can reinforce harmful narratives rooted in colonialism. This panel will explore these critical issues and discuss the necessary steps to ensure that AI is developed and deployed in ways that promote equity, justice, and the well-being of all communities.

Cara Hunter MLA is an elected politician for the East Derry constituency in Northern Ireland. Cara is currently the SDLP spokesperson for Education and Young People, a former spokesperson for Social Justice, and a current member and former chair of the All-Party Committee for Addiction and Dual Diagnosis. A passionate advocate for, amongst other things, a reunified New Ireland, animal welfare, and mental health, Cara holds expertise on a wide range of issues and is well known for her energetic work in her constituency. Cara studied broadcast journalism at California State University, Northridge and graduated with a BA in Journalism from Liverpool John Moores University. After working in Communications for Kellogg's in Dublin, Cara started her career in politics, first becoming elected to Derry City and Strabane Council in 2019 and becoming Deputy Mayor at the age of just 23. Entering Stormont at the age of 24, Cara became one of the youngest MLAs in the history of Northern Ireland. Currently, Cara is moving a Private Members Bill to mitigate trauma for victims of sexual crimes and is due to give a TEDtalk in Austria this autumn.

Ronan Dunne is a Chairman, CEO, Board Strategic Advisor and independent non-executive director. He serves as Chair of Six Nations Rugby, the organising body of the Six Nations Championships and Autumn Nations Series. Six Nations Rugby is committed to the development of rugby at all levels, with its vision to make rugby the most engaging, entertaining and inclusive sporting experience. Ronan also serves as a non-executive director of British multinational retailer, Marks & Spencer, and strategic advisor to a number of companies in the telecom & technology sector. Ronan’s charitable work focuses on education and providing opportunities for the next generation of leaders. Ronan serves on the Advisory Board of the Kairos Society and is a counsellor for One Young World, which promotes positive change and social impact at its annual One Young World Summit. He also served as a Trustee of Step Up to Serve, a UK social action charity.
