  Professional Soccer Player and Activist

  Farkhunda Muhtaj is an Afghan-Canadian professional footballer and social activist. She is the Captain of the Afghanistan Women’s National Team and plays for Fortuna Sittard in the Dutch Eredivisie. In 2021, she evacuated 300 + Afghans including the Afghanistan Youth National Team and Afghanistan Football Federation Staff to Portugal after the Taliban regime came into power in August.

  She is the co-founder of Scarborough Simbas, a non-profit organization that uses sport to help ease the settlement journey of refugees and newcomers to Canada, the Director of Culture and Conscience at the Respect Group, a humanitarian ambassador for Penny Appeal Canada and UNHCR Netherlands, a global ambassador for Womenforwomen International, and also sits on the board of League 1 Ontario’s women’s soccer committee.

  Muhtaj was recognized as a Top 30 YorkU Alumni under 30 in 2022 for her active dedication to social justice. She has also been the recipient of many accolades including the World Football Summit Positive Impact Award, the Canadian Premier League Game Changer Award, the Community Leadership Award by the Office of the Mayor in the City of Clarington, the Women Who Inspire Award by the Canadian Council of Muslim Women, and the Community Involvement Award by the Canadian Afghan Sport Association among others.

  Muhtaj earned two degrees from York University; a BSc degree in Kinesiology and Health Sciences (2019) and a B.Ed degree in Science and Physical Education (2021). She captained York University’s Women’s Soccer Team where she was a USPORT Academic All-Canadian, OUA First-Team All-Star and an OUA Gold Medalist.

  Johan Chavez is a rural youth, farmer, and social entrepreneur from Colombia. With a background in agroindustrial engineering and specializations in food safety and agribusiness management, he is founder of BLUECROPS, supporting farmers with digital and technological tools. Passionate about rural development, Johan leads initiatives like the Agricultural Youth Observatory, connecting resources and opportunities to rural youth. Currently, he is developing a Rural Incubator program supported by Swiss organizations. Also since 2024 Johan is an NGIN Ambassador of Next Gen Agriculture Impact Network (NGIN), the global network of agricultural leaders supported by Bayer Crops Science.
  Also as former YouthLead Ambassador at USAID , he supported youth leaders and now serves on the Youth Advisory Group in the program Solutions For Youth Employment by the World Bank in the draft of policies and programs for youth.

  Lama Amro is the Executive Director at BuildPalestine. With extensive experience in crowdfunding, she has coached over 80 projects to raise $1M+. Lama also designs programs to support social entrepreneurs in all stages to sustain and grow their enterprises and social impact. Under her leadership, BuildPalestine has grown to be the address for social entrepreneurship in Palestine.

  Lama has also co-founded a Founder Institute chapter in Palestine, the world’s largest pre-seed accelerator. So far, five cohorts have been conducted, and 27 tech startups have graduated from the program. Lama is passionate about enhancing the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Palestine and the region.

  Lama was born and raised in Dura (outside of Hebron), and she graduated from Birzeit University with a bachelor's in Business Administration and a minor in Accounting. Her interests include Nature Photography and Video Making.

  I'm passionate about new technologies and the role of young people in major development issues. I work for the leading radio station in the Central African Republic (Radio Ndekeluka) and I'm also a leader (former Executive Member of the Central African National Youth Council).

  I set up the I YEKE TENE NI initiative, which focuses on freedom of expression in Africa. It has one of the most followed pages in the country (+23,000 followers).

  Trained by Barack Obama's YALI programme, I set up the first youth micro-trottoir in the Central African Republic. I carried the country's torch at the First Dialogue of Young African Leaders in Morocco, then at Technology Week in Kenya.

  As a filmmaker, I produced one of the country's best short films, "EBOUNDA", about the difficulties young girls face at school in remote towns. I also experimented with the role of actors by acting in several films that contribute to the development and affirmation of Central African youth.

  I won the Prix Photo de l'Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie in 2023 for tourist incursions into the town of Bossangoa in the Central African Republic.

  Thank you for giving me this opportunity today to describe myself. I would describe myself as self-motivated, diligent, disciplined, and someone who enjoys working with others to achieve challenging tasks and projects for the benefit of our communities.

  Over the years, I have worked in various roles that have given me numerous transferable skills and qualities that match and linked me with OYW. I enjoy working in the type of environment where everyone is positive about change, where everyone is seeking to move forward, and where people take responsibility for their own development especially in domaine of leadership and peace where I believe that the principle key is service.

  I have a solid track record of leadership, conflict resolution, and management achievement. For example, in my last role I worked as part of a team that managed to help the company increase internal capacity and external influences for about 8 months . We did this by providing outstanding service, by seeking ways to promote the organization services, and by being supportive of our manager in the delivery of his objectives in domaine pf leadership.

  Outside of work I keep myself fit and active by visiting the church several times a week. I relax by reading books and listening to podcasts that I have an interest in, and I also like to spend time with my family and friends.

  Whilst with my experience I understood above all this that my calling is in conflict resolution and I always commit to improve and develop in the role, not only in word but in action as well.

  Michael Møller is a former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and in his last post served as Director-General of the United Nations Office in Geneva and Secretary-General of the Conference of Disarmament, and has over 40 years of experience as an international civil servant. He served as the Executive Director of the Kofi Annan Foundation from 2008 to 2011. He is now member of the Board of the Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator Foundation, Senior Adviser to Macro Advisory Partners, Distinguished Fellow at the Geneva Graduate Institute in Geneva, Member of the Executive Board of the Kofi Annan Foundation, Member of the Board of One Young World, Honorary President of Art for the World, Honorary Chairman of Greycells and member of the Advisory Boards of a number of other Foundations.` Born in 1952 in Copenhagen, Denmark, Mr. Møller earned a Master’s degree in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University, United States, and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom.
